Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 Review and Specifications

May 1, 2020

What if I took one of the best-looking, extremely capable 13-inch Windows laptop and attached a 360-degree hinge that will allow you fold back the screen into a makeshift tablet? Make it thinner and lighter, and keep the entry price just under the $1,000 mark and you’d have something. That perfectly defines the all new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1.

The original Dell XPS 13, which dates back to 2015, delivered a stunning design that spread the laptop’s display from one edge of the lid to the other, reducing the bezel (that odd black strip around the screen) to an as thin as possible. Now, as the lighter and thinner laptop design and no-bezel appearance has become a bit more of a commodity, Dell has raised the ante, allowing this touchscreen laptop to transform into a tablet.

It’s the thinnest Dell XPS laptop that you can buy right now, and one of the lightest, but the eye-watering price and some exceptionally strong rivals – such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and 12-inch Apple MacBook – mean that this 2-in-1 doesn’t have the appeal of the class-leading regular Dell XPS 13.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 begins at $999 for a full-HD touch screen, Core i5-7Y54 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. However, we would step as much as the $1,199 configuration we examined, comes with 8 GB RAM and 256GB SSD. The $1,299 mannequin has a faster Core i7-7Y75 CPU. For those who’re willing to splurge, you possibly get a configuration with a more powerful Core i7 chip, 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and a sharper 3200 x 1800 display, for $1,799.

Summary

The Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 is surely one of the best 2-in-1 laptops that combine portability, comfort, and loads of power in a sleek, fanless design, but we wish the battery lasted a bit longer.
