The Chinese Tech Giants Xiaomi had confirmed that they will be launching the much anticipated smartphone, the Mi Note 2 at an event in Beijing on Tuesday. The long rumoured phone has been leaked several times in the past few weeks, and, the company has now confirmed one of the biggest expectations, that is the smartphone will feature a curved or dual edge display, just like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7.
In a tweet on Friday, Xiaomi said the Mi Note has been “curved to impress”. While this itself may leave some room for speculation, the company has very specifically added that the smartphone will feature “two-sided dual curves”. This all but confirms a dual edge curved display like the ones Samsung employs on the Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Mi Note 2 launch confirmation by Xiaomi follows a major leak from earlier this week that tipped pricing and specifications, all in the form of leaked presentation slides. The leak also tipped another much-rumoured feature – the presence of a dual rear camera setup similar to the one launched with the Mi 5s Plus last month. Also expected is an iris scanner, a new feature to unlock the device as was first seen in late Galaxy Note 7.
The leaked presentation slides reveal two models of the smartphone, a 4 GB of RAM/ 64 GB of internal storage priced at CNY 2,799 (approx US $415 or INR 27,800), and then there is a 6 GB of RAM/ 128 GB of internal storage variant priced at CNY 2,999 (approx US $445 or INR 29,800).
Other leaked specifications reveals a 5.7-inch Quad-HD (1440p) Super Amoled display with pressure sensitive technology – similar to the Xiaomi Mi 5s. The smartphone is said to be powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 821 SoC, while the dual rear camera sensor is said to bear a 23 mega-pixel Sony IMX 318 sensor and a 12 mega-pixel Sony IMX 378 sensor. On the front is said to be an 8 mega-pixel sensor.
The Xiaomi Mi Note is expected to be backed by a 4,100mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner embedded under glass, as well as 4G VoLTE , Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4/5 GHz) MU-MIMO, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C connectivity options. The smartphone is said to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8, and support dual-SIM slots (Nano + Nano).
