LG Watch W7 – Company’s First Hybrid Smartwatch Launched

LG has just launched its new smartwatch next to the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone. The LG Watch W7 is an interesting new notebook because it is the company’s first hybrid smartwatch. The South Korean manufacturer said the smartwatch “combines mechanical movement with digital features,” which means it combines a circular LCD display with a pair of mechanical hands. The Watch W7 uses Google’s Wear OS and can, therefore, be customized in different ways with different dials and complications available online.

The LG Watch W7 is the company’s first laptop to run Google’s new Wear OS platform. LG says the smartwatch is for users who want “the look of a traditional analog watch but want the practical features of a connected smartwatch.” It was developed in partnership with Soprod SA in Switzerland. It is supposed to have a “high precision quartz movement” and physical watch hands in a stainless steel body. Notably, the smartwatch is compatible with all standard 22mm watchbands.

In terms of specifications, the LG Watch W7 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 2100 processor and, as noted, is running Google’s Wear OS. The hybrid smartwatch features a 1.2-inch (360×360-pixel) LCD display with a performance index per pixel of 300 pixels per inch. In terms of dimensions, it measures 44.5×45.4×12.9mm and weighs 79.5 grams. In terms of storage, it includes 768 MB of LPDDR3 RAM and 4 GB of eMMC storage.

The LG Watch W7 SmartWatch is powered by a 240 mAh battery. The connectivity options of the smartwatch include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 BLE. and USB Type-C 2.0 port. The sensors onboard the laptop are 9-axis sensors and a pressure sensor. In addition, the Watch W7 is IP68 certified for its resistance to water and dust.

LG says that in full operation mode with a single charge, the LG Watch W7 can run for two days and an additional 3 to 4 days in analog mode only. Meanwhile, in only mechanical watch mode with its smart features turned off, the smartwatch is expected to run for up to 100 days, or more than three months before requiring another charge. Notably, the LG Watch W7’s analog hands also display information such as the altimeter, barometer, stopwatch, timer and compass indications.

The price of the LG Watch W7 has been set at $449.99 for the US market and will be available via Best Buy. Pre-orders should start on October 7th and the release date is October 14th. The launch dates and prices for other markets will be announced locally when they are available.
