According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company may introduce USB-C for its latest AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods by the year 2024, while Mac accessories such as the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad may switch to USB-C as early as next year.
Tech giant Apple may bring a USB-C port to AirPods and Mac accessories by 2024, media reports said.
“It’s a safe bet that these accessories will switch to USB-C in their next incarnation,” Gurman said.
Before the EU legislation takes effect, Apple will have to replace its AirPods, according to the report.
With the European Union set to make USB-C charging mandatory for the new smartphones, tablets and headphones introduced in that area by the end of 2024, there has been a rumored shift away from the Lightning ports.
Tony Fadell, inventor of the iPod, has said Apple should include a USB-C port in iPhones, now that the European Union has passed a resolution on USB Type-C as a standard charging port.
The debate began when a Twitter user questioned whether the iPod would succeed if Apple were forced to use USB 1.0 instead of the fast FireWire technology.
“I don’t see a problem here. The world has moved to USB-C. The physical and the user limits have been reached. The next step is wireless per, no diff physical connection. So I’m not so worried about these regulations. They’re just forcing Apple to do the right thing, and It’s too late, frankly,” Fadell said on Twitter.
